Chris Von Der Ahe
St. Louis Cardinals, a team of the Major Leagues, America's favorite past time. When people are sitting in the stands, do they take a second of their time away from the game to think about who made the St. Louis Cardinals franchise possibles? No, I bet that they didn't know that the name of the founder of the Cardinals was Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Von Der Ahe. Christian Wilhelm was born on October 7th, 1851 in Hille, Germany, and died on June 5th, 1913, due to cirrhosis to the liver.
Chris Von Der came to America, arriving in New York, New York. Which later, he moved to St. Louis MO, and got a job as a clerk at a grocery store. Years later, he bought out the store owner. He later expanded the the store by adding a saloon in the back. Chris had soon token a notice that some numbers of his customers had visited the saloon after the baseball game. Which caused Chris to buy out the bankrupt MLB team known as the St. Louis Brown Stockings for $1800. Today the cardinals come to an inflation of 820 Million dollars.
The St. Louis Brown Stockings were on the edge of their franchise. In 1877, a hard gambling had ended the St. Louis Brown Stockings' after the season had ended. After attempts of bringing the team back into the Major Leagues, St. Louis had failed, until Chris bought the team. Chris Von Der named the team the St. Louis Browns, and hired the future Chicago White Sox owner, Charles Comisky, who in the futures managed the team. Chris took a huge role playing as the owner of the Browns, though he didn't know anything about the sport. Though when the St. Louis Browns became popular, he started selling tickets at 25¢ thinking that people would buy beer. He sold the tickets for such a great price because he was making over 500 thousand dollars from the team alone.
Chris had changed the teams name twice. The first time was in 1899, which the name was changed to the perfectos. Then a year later, he changed the name again to the present day Cardinals. The Cardinals had made their way back to the Major Leagues. Chris had instantaneously snapped up players from other teams wanting to dump their expensive contracts. So he made some trades. With attractions, he had made his park a multi-use.
Chris was a womanizer; a ladies man, he was fond of the young ladies in their early twenties. His first 3 wife's had clubbed his girlfriend after an 1885 game. There are stories of how he admittedly played negative contemporary stereotypes of Germans. But after all he did by reviving American Baseball not only to St. Louis, but also to the nation. After all of his great accomplishments he had done for St. Louis and Missouri, he deserves a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Von Der Ahe was a leader, entrepreneur, which is what my Academy is about. The business management and technology Academy turns people into great people, like Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, and Derek Jeter. Business Management is a great thing. But we can't wait for a great thing to happen, we have to be the ones to make that great thing happen.
Today Chris' legacy still goes on in St. Louis with the Cardinals. Back in 1887, Chris bought the St. Louis Cardinals for a net worth of $1800, now today the Cardinals have a net worth of over 820 Million dollars. So Chris Fredrich has made an inflation price of over 819 Million dollars. Chris has made one of the biggest franchises in Major League history.
